What is a Tree Preservation Order?

Officially a tree preservation order is ‘A Tree Preservation Order is an order made by a local planning authority in England to protect specific trees, groups of trees or woodlands in the interests of amenity.’ There are different reasons a tree or group of trees can acquire a Tree Preservation order, the most common reasons include heritage and habitat concerns.
