Tree Crown Reduction

What is a Tree Crown Reduction

A crown reduction is when you reduce the canopy of the tree, in other words the outer volume of the tree. 1.5 metres is a normal reduction size, so reducing the overall diameter of the canopy by 3 meters.

Reasons for  Tree Crown Reduction

Reasons for reducing a tree canopy include:

  • Increase A tree being too big for its surroundings, over dominating a garden and encroaching on surrounding environment i.e. other trees, buildings, public areas and neighbours.
  • Safety i.e. if a trees root system cannot take the weight of the tree
  • Light quality

Why Choose Our Surrey and West Sussex Professional Tree Crown Reduction?

A Healthy Tree

We use our knowledge and experience to reduce the correct amount of the crown for the species of tree in order to leave a healthy and sustainable tree. This means taking a tree back to growth points to allow the tree to continue cycling. Over reducing a crown will cause problems, for example, a badly executed crown reduction can cause abnormal and rapid response growth known as epicormic growth. Epicormic growth would produce a tree with increased density and possibly add dangerous weight to the tree.

An experienced and professional Arborist, with high-quality equipment, will leave clean expert cut with no rips, tears, step cuts or flat cuts. Bad cutting can damage and shock a tree and bring disease to a tree Some species are particularly susceptible to poor quality tree Arboriculture. Complete dieback of the tree is the worst outcome.

Visual Appearance

Aesthetics play a key role in a professional job. Whilst the health of a tree is primary, an expert arborist will also be focusing on the aesthetic of a tree. Often a well-executed job is inextricably linked to an aesthetically pleasing visual result. A well-executed job should present as a natural healthy tree canopy.

Types of Tree

Depending on species and age, trees require different crowning. A knowledgeable eye is needed to make sure the correct procedure is carried out.
