Tree Pollarding

What is a Tree Pollarding?

Tree pollarding involves cutting a tree back to stump in order to help it regenerate.

Reasons for Tree Pollarding

The main reasons to pollard a tree are space management, easy maintenance, and to keep large trees under control. For example, you will often see pollarded trees in London, the London Plane, due to reduced space.  Other reasons can include encouragement of epicormic/response growth and for aesthetic reasons. Pollarding most definitely does not suit all trees, some trees commonly pollarded include Weeping Willow, Sycamore and London Plane. Pollarding regularity depends on tree type and location/circumstances.

Why Choose Our Surrey and West Sussex Professional Tree Pollarding Service?

Southern Cross Tree Surgery have extensive experience in Tree pollarding. Whilst pollarding is a basic form of tree reduction, it still requires skill and knowledge to do it properly. Professional pollarding gives the tree its best chance of regrowth and will produce a pleasant visual result.

We can also train a tree back from pollarding. This involves cutting a tree back to specific points during the trees regrowth.
